J. Christian Snedeker Fine Art

J. Christian Snedeker

I don't remember what first interested me in art, but the event that definitely ignited in me the realization of the power of painting, and a desire to explore it, was the Andrew Wyeth retrospective exhibit at the Boston Museum in 1970. I was simply awed by the power of an artistic vision that sought to delve deeply into the reality of one man's world.
It is this searching that compels me to put paint to canvas.
I was born in 1952, and lived on the south shore of Long Island,New York until 1967. I attended the Boston Museum School of Art in the early
seventies, where I studied painting, drawing, and photography. Upon completion of my studies, I moved to Charleston, S.Carolina and began a career in furnituremaking, taking advantage of an opportunitythat, while satisfyingly creative, largely kept me away from painting except for occasional periods.
I returned to a more intensive study of painting in the 1990's. I joined the Charleston Artist's Guild, and was welcomed into the art community with a "Best In Show" award at the 2001 Artist's Guild Members Exhibit. Other awards in clude: 2nd place- 2007 Southern Light Paintout,Hon. mention-2004 Charleston Outdoor Painters Assn.                   I now paint full-time, developing works that hopefully evoke the deeper qualities of the beauty of our world that we so often take for granted. The work of an artist is a journey, always seeking to explore deeper meaning, and to reach for a greater awareness and understanding. I don't think any artist ever arrives at a destination; it is the journey that matters.

I am an associate member of Oil Painters of America.
